Settling In
Hubby and I are settling into our new home. Today we went to the university to meet with Lígia, the post-graduate fellow who helped arrange his Fulbright Teaching Fellowship, and afterward we picked up our monthly metro passes and shopped for groceries. I was proud of myself for being able to buy fish, bread, and ice cream on three Portuguese lessons with my Portuguese-born neighbor in Albany. (She’s really a very good teacher, because I also went to sign up for a course at the university and they though I might be eligible for the second-level beginner class!)
Lisbon is built on seven hills, and our garret apartment is near the top of one of them, in a neighborhood called Bairro Alto (because of its top-of-the-hill location).
We’re on the top floor, so we get a great view of the city and the harbor.
One of the houses in our neighborhood is made of green tile in the size and dimension of bricks, so I now have green tile envy.
